Creighton Baseball Nicknames (pt 1)
The names you’ve been craving.
College baseball is back, baby.
That means it’s time to deliver the good.
This all started back in 2016 when, on a chilly spring day, I came up with the nickname, “King of the Anthills.” The name was born out of an observation I had that the northern most mound in the left field bullpen at TD Ameritrade park was used exclusively by lefties to avoid interference by the bullpen seating area. This side of the pen - butting up against the wall - also happened to be the spot where the mound tarp was rolled up and stored when the mound was in use. Underneath the tarp were anthills. Lots of them. Thus, the lefty slinger became the lord of the ants, the King of the Anthills.
Since then we’ve entertained the likes of Buntatron 2000, Hang Dong Holton, and All The Berries. We’ve donned two Kings of the Anthills since Albrecht’s departure in the Holy King (Preston Church) and the Southern King (Denson Hull).
We start this season anew, with a whole roster chock-full of returners that have retained their names from year’s past. Here they are in all of their glory.
Let’s begin.
